Turkey: CHP names Izmir mayoral candidate

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) early Monday announced its mayoral candidate for the Aegean province of Izmir.

Tunc Soyer is going to compete for the mayor position in the upcoming local elections slated for March 31, 2019.

As a CHP member, Soyer has served as mayor of Izmir’s Seferihisar district.

Last month, CHP head Kemal Kilicdaroglu had nominated Mansur Yavas for mayor of the capital Ankara in the upcoming polls.

For the commercial capital Istanbul -- a city almost one-fifth of Turkish citizens call home -- the party named Ekrem Imamoglu.
