Turkey condemns Thursday’s terrorist attack in Baghdad

‘Such attacks will not hinder efforts towards attaining lasting stability in Iraq,’ says Turkish Foreign Ministry

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey on Friday condemned a terrorist attack in Baghdad that killed at least seven people on Thursday.

“We strongly condemn this heinous terrorist attack, perpetrated at a time when there are strong signs towards ensuring peace, security and stability in Iraq after long years of conflict environment,” said a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

“Such attacks will not hinder the efforts towards attaining lasting stability in Iraq. Turkey will continue to provide all kinds of support to Iraq to this end,” it added.

The statement also conveyed Turkey’s condolences “to the friendly and brotherly people of Iraq, and wished Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and speedy recovery to the wounded”.

On Thursday, at least seven people were killed in a suspected suicide attack in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

A suicide bomber blew himself up in the crowded al-Jamila neighborhood of Sadr district.

No terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack comes during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan after months of peace in the capital.
