ANKARA (AA) - Turkey on Sunday extended condolences to Kenya over a roadside blast that targeted police officers in country's north.

“We are deeply saddened to receive the news that several police officers on patrol lost their lives in a terror attack which targeted their vehicle in Garissa Province in Kenya,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

On early Sunday, an improvised explosive device went off as the police were patrolling along the Kenya-Somalia border. At least 10 policemen were killed in the explosion.

According to a statement by the Kenyan police, preliminary investigations indicated that the attack was carried out by Somalia-based insurgents group al-Shabaab.
