ANKARA (AA) - A foundation linked to Turkey's religious authority distributed aid Thursday to thousands of families in Zimbabwe during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Turkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) delivered food packages to families, which will meet needs for approximately one month, according to a statement from the aid group.
Fast-breaking meals, or iftar, also will be handed out to the needy during Ramadan.
TDV will distribute more than 100,000 food packages to families in need, and will organize iftar for nearly 200,000 people in 98 countries.
The organization will also provide with clothing to more than 10,000 children from Bangladesh, Chad, Palestine, Niger, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
Fasting, held from dawn to dusk during Ramadan, is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is a time of self-examination and great religious devotion.
