Turkey extends condolences to quake-hit Indonesia

At least 34 die as earthquake quake rattles Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey on Friday extended condolences to Indonesia over loss of lives in a powerful earthquake.

"We have received the news with deep sorrow that an earthquake of 6.2 magnitude occurred in Majene city of West Sulawesi province, Indonesia which caused loss of lives and many injuries," said a Foreign Ministry statement.

“We wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and extend our sincere condolences to their loved ones, as well as to the friendly and brotherly people and Government of Indonesia, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” the statement added.

At least 34 people were killed and 637 others injured as a powerful earthquake struck Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island on Friday. Some 15,000 people have been evacuated.

According to country's National Disaster Management Agency, the magnitude 6.2 quake struck six kilometers (3.73 miles) northeast of the Majene city, at a depth of 10 km (6.2 mi).
