ANKARA (AA) – The acceleration of Turkey’s relations with Guatemala is a good example of Ankara’s rapprochement with the Latin American and Caribbean region, a Turkish minister said Thursday.
Speaking at an exhibition in Turkey’s capital of Guatemalan artist Fernando Valdiviezo's work reinterpreting the portraits of Turkish historical figures found on Turkish lira banknotes, Deputy Foreign Minister Yavuz Selim Kiran said political, economic and cultural relations gained momentum with the embassies of the two countries entering into service.
"Our accelerating relations have also been a good example of our rapprochement with the Latin American and Caribbean region. We sincerely wish to further our cultural cooperation with the region," Kiran said.
Recalling that diplomatic relations with Guatemala date back to 1874, Kiran said: "We believe that we have a much bigger and stronger perspective ahead of us to revive this deep-rooted and historical heritage."
