Turkish Red Crescent donates wheelchair to 10-year-old getting treatment in Hatay; plans to also give him prosthetic legs

By Salim Tas

HATAY, Turkey (AA) - A battery-operated wheelchair donated by the Turkish Red Crescent is making life easier for 10-year-old Abdulbasit Alsattuf who lost his legs during an airstrike in northwestern Syria’s Idlib governorate, the aid agency said Tuesday.

Alsattuf lost both his legs in an attack carried out by the Bashar al-Assad regime while he was playing in front of his house in February.

He lost his mother and sister in the attack.

He was recently brought to southern Turkey’s Hatay province for treatment along with his father and wounded sister.

Turkish Red Crescent continues to support Alsattuf and his family with clothing, food and housing.

Kadir Akgunduz, the aid group’s Syria field coordinator, said he visited Alsattuf after his treatment in the Hatay State Hospital and told him the Turkish Red Crescent would also provide him with prosthetic legs.
