Turkey hits dozens of Daesh, PKK/PYD targets in Syria

Turkish General Staff says FSA fighters were killed in offensive to retake villages in Mare district, near Al-Bab

ANKARA (AA) – The Turkish army hit 70 PKK/PYD and 52 Daesh targets in the past 24 hours as part of Operation Euphrates Shield in northern Syria, the military said on Saturday.

The PKK and its Syrian offshoot the PYD are both listed as terrorist groups by Turkey although the U.S. and EU only view the PKK as a terrorist organization.

At least two Daesh terrorists were killed and a vehicle destroyed in an airstrike carried out by U.S.-led coalition forces, the Turkish General Staff said.

Saturday's statement said five Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters were wounded during an opposition forces' offensive to retake two villages in the Mare district, northwest of Al-Bab.

The PKK/PYD terrorist group attacked FSA fighters in south of Jarabulus city, killing two people, the statement added.

Operation Euphrates Shield was launched in late August to rid the north Syrian border area of terrorists. The campaign has seen both Daesh and the PKK/PYD targeted by the FSA plus Turkish tanks, artillery and aircraft.
