Turkey 'neutralizes' 8 PKK/PYD/YPG terrorists

950 people have also been held for trying to cross Turkish borders illegally

ANKARA (AA) - Eight PKK/PYD-YPG terrorists have been “neutralized” in northern Syria, according to the Turkish military on Thursday.

Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralized" in their statements to imply that the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

According to information on the official website of Turkish General Staff, eight terrorists were neutralized between March 12 and March 14 under the framework of Turkey's self-defense rights.

The terrorists reportedly attacked Turkish troops in southeastern Mardin province's Nuseybin district, the army said.

The military added that Turkish security forces also detained over 950 people who were trying to cross the Turkish borders illegally.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including women and children.
