Turkey offers condolences over Brazil dam collapse

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey on Saturday offered condolences over a dam collapse in southern Brazil, killing at least 10 people and leaving hundreds missing.

“We are saddened to hear that many people lost their lives and many are still missing after the collapse of the dam in the town of Brumadinho, Brazil,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement

More than 300 people are still missing after the dame at an iron ore mine -- owned by Brazilian company Vale SA -- in southern Minas Gerais state collapsed on Friday, according to local media reports.

The company said in a statement that mining waste from the dam had reached various neighborhoods and evacuation efforts were underway.
