ANKARA (AA) - Over 60,000 books were published in Turkey in 2019, the country's statistical authority announced on Wednesday.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said 61,512 books were assigned with International Standard Book Numbers (ISBN) last year.
The ISBNs were also issued for 415 cd-based electronic books, while 6,000 others for web-based electronic books, 186 for talking books, and 369 for other materials.
"In 2019, the total number of published materials was 68,554 with an increase of 2.7% as compared with 2018," TurkStat said.
The 28.3% of the materials published in 2019 was on education, 18.2% on adult culture, 16.7% academic, 16.3% on adult fiction, 15.1% on children and adolescence, and 5.4% on religion, TurkStat added.
Of all the materials published, 90% were in the Turkish language, while the share of English language publications was 6.6% in 2019.
On the quantity basis, Turkey's Culture and Tourism Ministry sold 423.6 million book banderols last year, versus 410.6 million in 2018.
