Turkey remands PKK terrorist wanted by Interpol

Suspect arrested in southeastern Sanliurfa province

By Esber Ayaydin

SANLIURFA, Turkey (AA) - A PKK terrorist wanted with an Interpol red notice was remanded in custody Wednesday in southeastern Turkey, according to a security source.

Anti-terror and intelligence teams in Sanliurfa province traced the suspect found to be organizing illegal crossings from Syria to Turkey on behalf of the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG terrorist group, as well as supplying arms, explosive materials and ammunition, said the source on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The police also found that the suspect, identified by the initials M.S.K., was being sought by Interpol and by two Turkish courts for membership of an armed terror group.

M.S.K. was arrested in an operation in rural areas of Ceylanpinar district and remanded in custody by a Sanliurfa court, said the source.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.

The terrorist YPG group is the PKK's Syrian offshoot.
