Turkey, Russia, Iran back Syria's territorial integrity
Russian foreign minister says trio has 'full understanding' on countering terrorism, preserving Syria's territorial integrity

MOSCOW (AA) - Russia, Turkey and Iran have "full understanding" on countering terrorism and preserving Syria's territorial integrity, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.
"Moscow, Ankara and Tehran do not have hundred percent same goals in Syria. Each country may have different approaches to the situation in Syria. However, the trio have full understanding on countering terrorism and preserving Syria's territorial integrity," Lavrov said.
Lavrov's remarks came during his speech at the "Government Hour" in the Federation Council, where he evaluated agenda.
He said three countries managed to realize each other’s interests. "These common interests provide consistent and effective work on the Astana format," he said.
Russia, Turkey and Iran are the guarantor states that brokered a cease-fire in Syria in December 2016, leading to the Astana peace talks.
About the dialogue with the U.S., Lavrov said Russia is open to "constructive" joint work with Washington.
"Unfortunately, we do not see any progress from the U.S. administration," he said.
Lavrov added Russia does not look for "deepening" confrontation, adding: "But, of course, we will continue to respond to any unfriendly steps in accordance with the principle of reciprocity."
