Turkey sends earthquake aid to Mexico
State-run Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency delivers aid parcels to 400 families affected by quake on June 23

By Jeyhun Aliyev

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s state aid agency announced Wednesday that it sent emergency humanitarian aid to Oaxaca, Mexico to aid people in need in the wake of an earthquake there.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) delivered aid parcels to 400 families who were forced to leave their homes, especially in mountain villages with difficult access, after the 7.4 magnitude earthquake on June 23.

At the request of the Oaxaca Governor's Office, aid parcels containing food and hygiene materials were distributed to nearly 2,000 people in cooperation with the local Health Ministry.

In 2018 and 2019, Turkey was the first country to extend a helping hand to Mexico after earthquakes struck the country.

In recognition of the support, then-Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto presented a letter of thanks to TIKA.
