Turkish foreign minister says two countries 'giving great importance to interparliamentary cooperation'

By Burak Dag

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s foreign minister met Montenegro's parliament speaker in capital Ankara on Wednesday.

In a tweet, Mevlut Cavusoglu said the two countries are "giving great importance to interparliamentary cooperation".

The foreign minister said he was very pleased to meet Ivan Brajovic, the parliament speaker of “friend and ally” Montenegro, twice within one week.

"Hoping to see him again at centennial ceremony of Grand National Assembly of Turkey," he added.

Cavusoglu paid a two-day official visit to Montenegro last week and met the country’s top leadership, including his counterpart Srdjan Darmanovic, Prime Minister Dusko Markovic, and President Milo Dukanovic.

Turkey and Montenegro have close ties as Ankara was one of the first to recognize the Balkan country’s independence in June 2006.

Turkey also supports Montenegro’s efforts to achieve its primary foreign policy goal of integration with Euro-Atlantic structures.

Montenegro also acts in solidarity with Turkey on regional and international platforms.
