AZAZ, Syria (AA) - Turkish police have trained 200 Syrian policemen for ensuring security in the northern Syrian city of Azaz, according to a local police official on Thursday.

A graduation ceremony for the newly-trained policemen was held in Azaz district of northern Aleppo that saw attendance of Turkish police officials.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Azaz Police Commissioner Ahmet Zeydan said the newly-graduated police personnel would provide security in rural areas of northern Syrian region liberated from Daesh in the Turkish-led Operation Euphrates Shield in early 2017.

“Our policemen will work to protect our people who have been persecuted due to alliance of the cruel Assad regime, Daesh and the PKK terror groups," he added.

Meanwhile, the Azaz police department also published a circular for new police recruitments.

Following liberation of the Azaz-Jarabulus area in northern Syria from the Daesh terror group, Turkey started police training in the region in late 2017 and has so far trained thousands of Syrian policemen.
