Turkey: Wanted PKK terrorist killed in N.Iraq operation
Murat Gunduz, codenamed Devran, was neutralized on June 27 in operation in Qandil region of northern Iraq
By Muhammed Boztepe
ANKARA (AA) - A PKK terrorist killed by Turkish security forces in June had been on the nation’s wanted terrorists list, the Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.
Murat Gunduz, codenamed Devran, was neutralized on June 27 in a cross-border operation in northern Iraq’s Qandil region, near the headquarters of the terrorist group.
Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralized" in their statements to imply that the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.
In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including many women, children, and infants.
