Turkey: Wanted terrorist among neutralized in operation

Ugur Arslan, codenamed Agir, neutralized in operation in eastern Agri province

ANKARA (AA) - A PKK terrorist 'neutralized' by Turkish security forces on July 28 had been on the nation’s wanted terrorists list, the Interior Ministry said on Sunday.

Ugur Arslan, codenamed Agir, was among the two terrorists neutralized on July 28 in a security operation in Tendurek mountain of eastern Agri province.

Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralized" in their statements to imply that the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

He was in the orange category of the Interior Ministry's wanted terrorists list and sought with a bounty of 600,000 Turkish liras (roughly $106,000) on his head.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including many women, children, and infants.
