GAZIANTEP, Turkey (AA) - Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has been carrying out humanitarian work in the northern Syrian city of Jarabulus since it was liberated from Daesh, a senior representative of the organization has said.

In an interview with Anadolu Agency Sunday, Deputy Chairman Mehmet Halis Bilden said the AFAD had been doing its best to provide humanitarian assistance to Jarabulus residents since the Turkey-backed Operation Euphrates Shield began.

"We are coordinating aid [relief efforts] on the border between Karkamis in Turkey and Jarabulus...We have pitched tents that can accommodate a 1,000 people in the city. And we are on alert for a possible migration wave [from the city]," he said.

On Friday, the Turkish Red Crescent had also sent aid trucks to Jarabulus, handing out supplies to 5,000 people.

Operation Euphrates Shield, which was launched on Wednesday, is aimed at improving security, supporting coalition forces and eliminating the terrorism threat along Turkey’s border through Free Syrian Army fighters backed by Turkish armor, artillery and jets.
