Turkey's benchmark stock index flat at open

BIST 100 index falls some 57 points compared with last close, US dollar/Turkish lira rate stands at around 5.23

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index opened Tuesday flat at 93,904.85 points, with 0.06 percent or 57.50 points down compared with the previous close.

On Monday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged 1.03 percent to close the day at 93,962.35 points with a daily trade volume of 7.3 billion Turkish liras ($1.39 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.2330 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Monday's closing rate of 5.2390.

The euro/lira rate was 5.9380, versus 5.9550 at the last close. One British pound traded for 6.7170 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY was 6.7430 by market close on Monday.

The price of Brent oil was $51.19 per barrel as of 10.15 a.m. local time (0715GMT) Tuesday.
