Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at midweek open

BIST 100 index drops some 832.93 points from Tuesday's close, US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stands at around 5.40

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index opened Wednesday down at 93,047.56 points, with a decline of 0.89 percent or 832.93 points.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 1.15 percent to close the day at 93,880.49 points with a daily trade volume of 6.76 billion Turkish liras ($1.1 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.4010 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Tuesday's closing rate of 5.3820.

The euro/lira rate was 6.1300, versus 6.1330 at the last close. One British pound traded for 6.8670 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY was 6.8820 by market close on Tuesday.

The price of Brent oil was $61.21 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Wednesday.
