Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at midweek's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,474.13 points on Wednesday, up 0.14% from the previous close.

Starting the midweek at 1,475.62 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 12.59 points from the previous close of 1,472.07 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,468.42 points, while its daily high was 1,478.96 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.1 trillion Turkish liras ($134 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 14.08 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 56 stocks on the index rose, 33 fell, and 11 were flat compared to Tuesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and polyester producer Sasa.

Telecommunications company Netas was the best performer, with its shares up 4.83%, while stocks of investment firm Is Yatirim saw the sharpest drop, down 1.64%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,815 by market close, up from $1,813 at Wednesday's close.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $71.50 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT).
