Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at open

BIST 100 index drops over 290 points from previous close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index fell by 0.30% or 291.30 points to open at 97,911.90 points on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped by 1.44% to close the day at 98,203.20 points with a daily trading volume of 6.5 billion Turkish liras ($1.13 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.7900 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared to Wednesday's closing rate of 5.7370.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also increased to 6.5640, versus 6.5030 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 7.5730 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.4950 at market close on Thursday.

The price of Brent oil was around $71.40 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Thursday.
