Turkey's Borsa Istanbul opens Thursday up

BIST 100 index rises 219 points from midweek close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.71

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index started Thursday up 0.21% or 219 points to open at 103,676.26 points.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 0.88% to close the day at 103,457.26 points with a daily trading volume of 6.65 billion Turkish liras ($1.16 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.7180 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Thursday, as it was 5.7140 at Wednesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.3780, versus 6.3740, and one British pound traded for 7.1680 Turkish liras, compared to 7.1360.

One barrel of Brent oil was sold for $63.43 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Thursday.
