Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts day 0.31% up

BIST 100 index rises 309.16 points from previous close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands at 5.86

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index started the day up 0.31% or 309.16 points to open at 99,957.90 points on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 2.17% to close the day at 99,648.74 points with a daily trading volume of 9.65 billion Turkish liras ($1.65 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.8680 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Thursday, versus 5.8460 at midweek close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.4590, up from 6.4220, and one British pound traded for 7.1870 Turkish liras, compared to 7.1630.

One barrel of Brent oil sold for $58.24 as of 9.45 a.m. local time (0645GMT) on Thursday.
