Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts week looking up

BIST 100 index climbs over 600 points compared to Friday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.69 percent or 613.92 points to open at 89,444.74 points on Monday.

On Friday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 1.64 percent to close the day at 88,830.82 points with a daily trading volume of 4.79 billion liras ($885.5 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 5.3550 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Friday's closing rate of 5.4160.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also dropped to 6.1210, versus 6.1590 at the last close. One British pound traded for 6.8430 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 6.8580 by market close on Friday.

The price of Brent oil rose to $57.88 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Monday, versus $57.78 in last week's closing.
