Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up 0.52% at Friday's close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day up 0.52% to close at 111,176.75 points on Friday.

Starting the day at 111,040.82 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index went 577.32 points from 110,599.43 points at Thursday's close.

During the last day of trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 111,040.82 points and 111,636.33 points -- 74 stocks on the index rose, 16 fell, and the remaining were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 759 billion Turkish liras ($128 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 10.2 billion Turkish liras ($1.72 billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding, private lenders Garanti BBVA and Akbank were the top companies on the BIST 100.

Shares of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, mining company Koza Madencilik and Ipek Dogal Enerji (IPEKE) posted the highest trading volumes.

Shares of Ipek Dogal Enerji (IPEKE) showed the best performance of the day -- up 8.57% -- as stocks of insurance company Gunes Sigorta did the worst, falling 5.68%.

An ounce of gold sold for $1,477.00 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,474.80 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was around $66.28 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Friday.
