Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at midweek opening

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbs more than 770 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index started Wednesday at 118,815.56 points, up 0.66% or 773.86 points.

At Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was down 1.04% at 118,042.00 points, with a daily trading volume of 24.6 billion Turkish liras ($3.6 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was around 6.8503 as of 9:30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Wednesday, up from 6.8430 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 7.8970 versus 7.8410, while one British pound traded for 8.7100 Turkish liras, compared to 8.7220 at Tuesday's close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $44.09 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
