BIST 100 index climbs nearly 800 points compared to Wednesday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 0.87 percent or 791.06 points to open at 91,793.23 points on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 0.19 percent to close the day at 91,002.17 points with a daily trading volume of 1.6 billion Turkish liras ($310.7 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.2970 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Wednesday's closing rate of 5.2840.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also climbed to 6.0390, versus 6.0190 at the last close. One British pound traded for 6.7180 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 6.7130 by market close on Wednesday.

The price of Brent oil increased rapidly to $54.47 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Thursday, versus $51.73 on Wednesday's closing.
