Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at open

Index gains over 130 points from previous close; Turkish lira gains in value against foreign currencies

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 0.14% or 131.90 points to start Wednesday at 96,163.73 points.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 0.78% to close the day at 96,031.83 points with a daily trading volume of 5.4 billion Turkish liras ($959.7 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate decreased to 5.7130 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday from 5.7310 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also dropped to 6.3450, versus 6.3520, and one British pound traded for 6.9390 Turkish liras, compared to 6.9640 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent oil sold for around $60.40 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
