BIST 100 index increases 0.57 percent as US dollar/Turkish lira rate rises to 3.53

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s BIST 100 stock index rose 578.56 points -- 0.57 percent -- to open at 102,848.74 points on Tuesday.

The banking and holding sector indices rose 0.55 percent and 0.63 percent respectively.

All sector indices were up. The transport sector index performed best, rising 1.63 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 3.5340 liras to the dollar at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared to 3.5250 at Monday’s close.

The BIST 100 was down 1,852.68 points -- 1.78 percent -- to 102,270.17 points at close on Monday. The day’s trading volume was 4.8 billion liras ($1.356 billion).
