Turkey’s cultural, tourism potentials shown in Serbia

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - Turkey's national flag carrier organized an event in Serbian capital on Tuesday to present Turkey’s cultural and tourism potential.

More than 20 tour operators from different parts of Turkey attended the Discover More Turkey event by Turkish Airlines in Belgrade.

They presented the cultural potentials of Turkish cities to Serbian tourism agencies.

Addressing the guests, Mehmet Alagoz, the director of Turkish Airlines in Serbia, said Turkey has other attractions for foreign tourists other than Istanbul and Antalya, a Mediterranean resort city.

“Our goal is to inspire Serbian tourists with the cultural potentials of Turkey,” Alagoz said, adding: “We invite them to discover more of Turkey.”

He also described the event as a great chance for both Turkish and Serbian tourism agencies, enabling face to face meeting for potential cooperation.

Meanwhile, Tanju Bilgic, Turkey’s ambassador to Belgrade, said more than 100,000 Turkish tourists visited Serbia in the first ten months of 2018, while more than 200,000 Serbians visited Turkey.

Bilgic said Turkey offers a variety of attraction for the tourists.

“Turkish tourism is not only about sun and sea. Summer tourism can be found in many parts of the world. But, when it comes to cultural tourism, you can not find it a better destination than Turkey.”

As part of the event, business-to-business meetings were held after the presentations for Turkish and Serbian agencies to discuss further cooperation.

Turkish Airlines, founded in 1933, has a fleet of nearly 330 aircrafts. Last year, the airline carried 68.6 million passengers with a 79.1 percent seat occupancy rate.

The company currently holds two daily flights between Istanbul and Belgrade.
