Turkey's electricity consumption down 0.76% in April

Turkey's electricity exports to neighboring countries up 313% year-on-year in April 2019

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's electricity consumption decreased by 0.76% in April compared to the same month of 2018, according to Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Ministry on Thursday.

The country's power consumption reached 22.610 billion kilowatt-hours in April, while electricity production increased by 0.71% to reach 22.783 gigawatt-hours compared to April 2018.

Out of April's total production, 13.69% was generated by natural gas power plants while 43.75% was derived from hydro plants and 13.86% from imported coal.

Local coal plants contributed 17.25% to electricity generation, wind plants constituted 6.50% and the remaining 4.95% of electricity production was generated from geothermal, fuel oil and biogas plants.

Turkey's electricity imports from neighboring countries decreased by 48.3% and reached 120.35 million kilowatt-hours compared to 232.73 million kilowatt-hours in April 2018.

In addition, the country's electricity exports to neighboring countries increased by 313.1% to 293.39 million kilowatt-hours of electricity from 70.99 million kilowatt-hours in April 2018.

Turkey's total installed power capacity reached 89.13 gigawatts by the end of March 2019, according to official figures.
