Turkey's electricity consumption down 0.94 pct in Feb.

Turkey's electricity exports to neighboring countries up 55 pct year-on-year in February 2019

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's electricity consumption decreased by 0.94 percent in February compared to the same month of 2018, according to Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Ministry on Friday.

The country's power consumption reached 22.62 billion kilowatt-hours in last month.

Turkey produced 22.77 gigawatt-hours of electricity in February 2019 - a production decrease of 0.38 percent compared to the same month of 2018.

Of February's total production, 21.2 percent was generated from natural gas power plants while 26.8 percent came from hydro plants and 23.2 percent from imported coal.

Local coal plants contributed 16.5 percent to electricity generation, wind plants constituted 7.6 percent and the remaining 4.6 percent of electricity production was generated from geothermal, fuel oil and biogas plants.

Turkey's electricity imports from neighboring countries decreased by 6.8 percent and reached 175.96 million kilowatt-hours compared to 188.81 million kilowatt-hours in February 2018.

In addition, the country's electricity exports to neighboring countries increased by 55.74 percent to 321.81 million kilowatt-hours of electricity from 206.63 million kilowatt-hours in February 2018.

Turkey's total installed power capacity reached 88.55 gigawatts by the end of 2018, according to official figures.
