Turkey’s ruling party candidate elected mayor in Usak

Mehmet Cakin bags nearly 38 percent of votes in local elections

ANKARA (AA) - The candidate of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party has been elected mayor of Turkey’s western Usak province in local elections on Sunday.

Mehmet Cakin bagged 50,373 votes, while opposition Good (IYI) Party got 48,551 votes, according to unofficial results.

Earlier on Sunday, millions of Turkish voters cast their ballots in local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials) and members of elder councils for the next five years.
