Humanitarian agencies distribute badly needed food aid to 1,500 families in Syria’s war-weary northwest

By Halit Suleyman

Al-BAB, Syria (AA) - Two Turkish humanitarian agencies this week distributed food aid to some 1,500 families in northwestern Syria.

Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the Turkish Red Crescent (Kizilay) both participated in the distribution of food aid to struggling families in the cities of Al-Bab and Qabasin in the Aleppo province.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency on Wednesday, Yusuf Ali, a member of Qabasin’s local council, thanked both agencies for the timely contributions.

“Food packages included basic staples, such as sugar, flour, olive oil, lentils, canned goods, pasta, and beans,” Ali said.

He went on to note that another 1,000 families in the nearby town of Bizaah had received sizeable contributions of rice.

In February, Al-Bab was captured from the Daesh terrorist group by the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army.

Syria has only recently emerged from a devastating civil war that began in 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.
