Turkish agency delivers food aid in Uganda, Djibouti

Food aid benefits 1,000 families at Ugandan refugee camp and 6,000 people in Djibouti

ANKARA (AA) - The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has provided food assistance to thousands of refugees in Uganda, the agency said on Tuesday.
Food packages were distributed to 1,000 families under a Ramadan campaign at the Bidi Bidi refugee camp in northern Uganda, the agency said in a statement.
Ugandan Grand Mufti Shaban Ramadan Mubaj expressed his gratitude for Turkey's assistance to Muslims in Uganda. He thanked the Turkish people and noted that friendship and ties between the two countries were growing stronger.
TIKA Coordinator Hakan Secilmis underlined that the TIKA's Kampala Coordination Office had been established recently. He praised the fact that charity activities were directed for Muslims at Bidi Bidi camp during Ramadan.
Yumbe town Mufti Sheikh Alhayi Shuaib Swaibu Ajiga was also present at the food distribution program.
Majority of residents taking shelter at the Bidi Bidi refugee camp are people who fled South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo due to terrorism and civil war.
TIKA also gave food aid to 1,136 families in Djibouti.
In a written statement, TIKA reported that food packages were distributed to 1,136 needy families in the East African nation.
Food packages were also distributed by TIKA after an iftar dinner of 900 people in the capital city and Tajura province.
Djibouti officials and families who attended the iftar dinner expressed their gratitude to Turkey and Turkish people.
Food aid was also distributed at Hafia, Belem and Antula central mosques in capital Bissau.
Cheick Bubacar Djalo, president of Guinea Bissau National Imams Association, Senior Adviser Dr. Idrissa Embalo and Foreign Affairs Officer Tcherno Cabiro Djalo participated in the distribution program.
