Turkish benchmark stock index rises over 4% at close

BIST 100 index soars nearly 3,900 points from previous close; Turkish lira gains value against foreign currencies

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index surged 4.13% to close at 98,336.85 points on Thursday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index, which started the day at 94,477.87 points, gained 3,895.75 points from the previous close of 94,441.10 points.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold reached $1,285.05 by market close, down from 1,293.20 at the previous close.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $69.22 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Thursday.
