Turkish benchmark stocks index up at opening

BIST 100 index climbs 0.67 pct, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.59

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.67 percent or 625.47 points to open at 94,158.59 points on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped by 0.90 percent to close the day at 93,533.12 points with a daily trading volume of 6.9 billion Turkish liras (some $1.2 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate increased to 5.5990 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared to Tuesday's closing rate of 5.5760.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also rose to 6.2910, versus 6.2570 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 7.3800 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.2860 at market close on Tuesday.

The price of Brent oil was around $69.91 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Wednesday.
