ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's capital Ankara on Wednesday signed a pact on building a landmark 56-kilometer (35-mile) bicycle path around the city.

The cooperation protocol for the bicycle road project was signed between Mansur Yavas, the Ankara municipality mayor, and top officials from five universities.

The path, set to be completed in 2020, will start at the Umitkoy Metro Station and will include five universities in the capital along its route.

Under the project, which will follow the Dutch bicycle model, subways and some 1,600 public buses will be made suitable for carrying bicycles.

Senior transportation officials from the northwestern U.S. state of Washington will also pay a visit to Ankara on Oct. 14 to contribute to the project.
