Turkish charities send aid to Lebanon's Syrian refugees

Aid group delivers clothes, blankets in Bekaa valley

By Mahmut Geldi

BEIRUT (AA) - A group of Turkish charities has sent humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees in camps in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, a representative of the body said Wednesday.

Eight Turkish aid groups, led by Hayat Yolu Association, sent humanitarian aid to refugees in the eastern Bekaa city of Lebanon.

Ahmet Bozdag told Anadolu Agency that the charities have run a three-day aid program with 11 volunteers on site helping Syrian and Palestinian refugees at the al-Hindi camp.

"The camp was submerged as a result of heavy rains that affected the region recently," Bozdag said.

He said the association delivered not only cash but clothes, blankets, mattresses for kids and families living in tents as well.

"Even under the difficult conditions, we have witnessed that the Syrian refugees set their hopes on Turkey," Bozdag said.

He added that Turkey will also send humanitarian aid to Syrian and Palestinian refugees living in the capital Beirut and the southern city of Sidon.

According to Lebanese figures, roughly 1.5 million Syrian refugees still remain on Lebanese territory. The UN, however, puts the number at less than one million.
