Turkish charity distributes food to migrants in Bosnia

More than 2,400 migrants benefit from food aid, says charity

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - A Turkish relief agency on Wednesday distributed food to migrants struggling to survive in difficult conditions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Istanbul-based Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) said that more than 2,400 migrants at the Lipa migrant and refugee camp in northwestern Bosnia benefited from the two-day distribution.

According to IHH, the food packages consisted of sandwiches, croissants, water, yogurt, fruit, and canned food.

The statement added that they will continue the distribution of aid to the migrants who are left unprotected outside and exposed to the heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures.

The migrant camp became largely unusable after a fire in December.

Although the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina planned to relocate more than 1,000 migrants staying in the camp to barracks near the city of Konjic, this did not happen due to resistance from the local people.

Later, large military tents were set up by the armed forces to protect the migrants.

With the arrival of winter, the living conditions are getting worse and the migrants struggle with both cold and rainy weather as well as other difficulties, particularly food shortage.
