Turkish charity sends aid to flood-hit S. Asian regions

Istanbul-based Humanitarian Relief Foundation provided humanitarian aid to India, Nepal, Bangladesh

ISTANBUL (AA) - A Turkish aid group on Saturday dispatched an emergency aid to 12,750 people in flood-hit regions of South Asia.

The Istanbul-based Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) said in a statement that it distributed food, hygiene packages, kitchen and shelter materials to people who were suffering from heavy monsoon rains in India, Nepal and Bangladesh.

The flood also affected Myanmar and Pakistan and search and rescue operations are ongoing for thousands of people, the aid agency said.

It said that the heavy flood affected some 25 million people and claimed 600 people’s lives in the region.

Nearly one million homes were damaged and 500,000 people were forced to leave their places, it read.
