Turkish defense chief wishes journalists quick recovery

Two Anadolu Agency reporters slightly wounded in attack with long-range weapons from YPG/PKK occupied areas

MARDIN, Turkey (AA) – Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar phoned two Anadolu Agency journalists who were lightly wounded Friday in an attack by YPG/PKK terrorists to wish them a speedy recovery.

YPG/PKK terrorists attacked a building where Anadolu Agency journalists were working in Nusaybin district of Turkey’s Mardin province bordering Syria, slightly wounding two reporters.

"The work the journalists do there is important to us and the community. It serves as a litmus test for understanding and reflecting on the facts and revealing the real face of the terrorist organization," Akar said.

Akar also received information on the incident.

According to an Anadolu Agency correspondent, the terrorists targeted the building with long-range weapons from YPG/PKK occupied areas across the Syrian border.

The two journalists -- Omer Yasin Ergin and Ahmet Kaplan -- were wounded by shards of glass.

Turkey launched Operation Peace Spring in northern Syria on Wednesday to secure its borders by eliminating terrorists there and to ensure the safe return of Syrian refugees and Syria’s territorial integrity.

Ankara wants to clear the region east of the Euphrates River of the terrorist PKK and its Syrian offshoot, the PYD/YPG.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union -- has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
