After grazing cow fell into ditch, firefighters struggled for an hour to free her
By Abdulhamit Yasar
KONYA, Turkey (AA) - A team of Turkish firefighters on Thursday came to the aid of a cow that had fallen into an irrigation ditch and was unable to get out.
The cow, belonging to farmer Huseyin Bas in the central province of Konya, apparently lost her way while grazing and slipped and fell into the ditch.
Hurt and confused, the cow was unable to get free.
Attempting to pull out the cow, the firefighters found human muscle power was not enough, and had to resort to the aid of construction equipment.
Adult cows can weigh some 720 kilograms, or nearly 1,600 pounds.
After working for an hour, the local rescuers were able to liberate the cow, free to graze again, presumably farther away from ditches.
