Turkish firms to cooperate in industrial digitalization

Turkcell, STM sign agreement to support digital transformation of country’s industries

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's leading cellphone operator Turkcell and a defense technologies company STM signed an agreement aimed at digital transformation of the country's industries, Turkcell said on Friday.
According to the agreement, the two companies would support industrial firms' digital transformation processes in fields of smart factory, energy and transportation solutions, industry 4.0, cybersecurity and internet of things (IoT), according to the statement issued by Turkcell.
The cooperation is aimed at increasing production efficiency, it said.
The digital transformation is expected to increase productivity by 10-15 percent, said Davut Yilmaz, STM's general manager.
Turkcell's CEO Kaan Terzioglu said both companies want to contribute to digitalization especially in the industrial and related production areas.
STM, established in 1991, provide engineering, technical support, project management, technology transfer and logistics support services for Turkish Armed Forces and the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM).
In Turkey, GSM-based mobile communication began when Turkcell commenced operations in 1994. Since then, it has continuously expanded its services based on mobile audio and data communication.
Another Turkish telecommunication company Turk Telekom signed a deal with American energy giant and conglomerate General Electric (GE) Digital to explore collaboration in the area of the industrial IoT for the country's industries.
