HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) - A Turkish village guard who was wounded last month by a PKK terrorist attack succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in southeastern Turkey on Monday, a security source said.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said Sebahattin Ayva was one of three soldiers injured during a mine and roadside bomb search on Sine Bridge in the village of Uzumcu, in the Hakkari province on June 11.
He was being treated at the capital Ankara’s Gulhane Training and Research Hospital.
More than 1,200 people, including security personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-long armed campaign in July 2015.
