Turkish hospitals treat scores of injured Aleppians

The injured are in serious condition

HATAY, Turkey (AA) – At least 117 people evacuated from war-battered Aleppo city in northern Syria have been transferred to hospitals in Turkey’s southern Hatay province for medical treatment.

According to an Anadolu Agency correspondent, the injured Aleppians, who are in a serious condition, were allowed into Turkey via Cilvegozu border crossing.

Earlier this week, Syrian opposition forces in eastern Aleppo reached a ceasefire deal with regime forces to evacuate civilians from the city.

Since then, at least 7,500 civilians have left Aleppo for safe areas in opposition-held Idlib -- which is located near the border with Turkey -- according to Syrian opposition group officials.

People with serious injuries were moved to Turkey for treatment.

Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011, when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests -- which erupted as part of the "Arab Spring" uprisings -- with unexpected ferocity.

Since then, hundreds of thousands of people are believed to have been killed and millions more displaced by the conflict.
