Turkish, Iraqi PMs stress cooperation against terrorism

Turkey's Binali Yildirim and Iraq's Haider al-Abadi meet on sidelines of Munich Security Conference

MUNICH (AA) - The Turkish and Iraqi premiers, on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference on Saturday, stressed cooperation in the fight against terrorist groups.

According to Turkish Prime Ministry sources, who gave details of the closed-door meeting on condition of anonymity, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim and Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi agreed to increase cooperation on fighting the terrorist groups PYD/PKK, Daesh, and FETO.

The two leaders also agreed to hold top-level meetings in the near future.

The conflict in Syria, the refugee crisis, and the EU's role in the future topped the agenda at the 54th Munich Security Conference, which began on Friday.

On the sidelines of the conference, Yildirim held separate closed-door meetings with a number of officials, including European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Polish Premier Mateusz Morawiecki, and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the chair of Greece's New Democracy Party.
