ANKARA (AA) - A leading Turkish parliamentarian called on the UN to take action over Tuesday’s suspected chemical attack in Syria which killed more than 100 civilians.

Taha Ozhan, who chairs the Turkish parliament’s Foreign Affairs Commission, said on Wednesday he condemned the attack.

Ozhan called on the UN and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to investigate the attack in Idlib and previous similar incidents carried out by Bashar al-Assad's forces.

"The images and information seen by the international media and public opinion from Khan Shaykun after the massacre indicated savagery and showed that the Assad regime is continuing the use of chemical weapons in open violation of the UN Security Council's 2118 and 2209 resolutions," Ozhan said.

Syrian opposition health minister, Firas Jundi, said on Tuesday more than 100 civilians had been killed and 500 others, mostly children, injured in a chlorine gas attack carried out by regime warplanes in the town of Khan Shaykun, Idlib province.
